Physician Advocacy Day

In partnership with MSSNY

Join the New York State Osteopathic Medical Society (NYSOMS) and your fellow colleagues and students to lobby elected leaders at the New York Physician Advocacy Day! Help us to encourage Senators and Assembly members to support legislation that is impactful to your future in the medical profession. Oppose bills that place restrictions and add unreasonable burdens for physicians and their patients.

WHY JOIN? NYSOMS supports osteopathic physicians and the profession as a whole in New York State. As an Osteopathic Physician or Medical Student, you voice matters! By lending your support and joining our efforts, you can help shape healthcare legislation in our state. Decisions made now will directly impact your careers as physicians and learning to be a successful advocate can aid in networking and leadership opportunities.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Listen to panel discussions and guest speakers from state and specialty societies speak on current trends in NY and key legislative issues
  • Meet with State Senators and Assembly members
  • Educate legislators about Osteopathic Medicine and top priorities that NYSOMS supports.

Following the morning program, physician, students and allied groups will have the opportunity to meet with legislators and their staff. More information about these meetings will be sent in a forthcoming email. The meetings will be in groups, so you do not need to worry about speaking one-on-one with a legislator.

PRE-Advocacy Day Session

Join NYSOMS for an online session to help prepare you for the Advocacy Day activities. We will cover key legislative issues, talking points, Do’s and Don’ts when communicating with legislators, and more ways to get involved as a student. Find out more information about key issues and get the chance to ask questions about advocacy and the event.
