2026 Experimental Research and Case Study Scientific Poster Competition
Held in Conjunction with the Regional Osteopathic Convention (ROC-NY)

A.   Submission Eligibility and Instructions:

  1. The NYSOMS Scientific Poster Competition is open to a Presenter who is a/an:
  • Intern/Resident/Fellow who graduated from a COCA-accredited College of Osteopathic Medicine,
  • Allopathic Intern/Resident/Fellow who are sponsored by a NYSOMS member or are in an osteopathically-recognized training program, or
  • Medicine Student who attends a COCA-accredited College of Osteopathic Medicine
  1. Multiple entries are not allowed by a submitting author and only one prize may be awarded per submitting Medical Student or Intern/Resident/Fellow.
    1. Two Poster Categories: Research and Case Report
    2. Abstracts must be received by Friday, February 6th, 2026- 11:59 p.m. (EST):
  • 2-3 NYSOMS Poster Competition Committee members will determine if the abstract submission will advance to the Semi-Finalist (Video) Round and will notify all Presenters by Friday, February 13th, 2026.
  • Semi-Finalist Presenters will produce a recorded, 4-minute video presentation of their poster, which must be submitted by Friday, February 27th, 2026. All Semi-Finalists’ pre-recorded presentations will be digitally displayed at the 2026 NYSOMS Regional Osteopathic Convention (ROC-NY).
  • 2-3 NYSOMS Poster Competition Committee members will determine which Semi-Finalists will advance to the Finalist Round and will notify all Presenters by Monday, March 9th, 2026.
  • Finalists will present virtually to the ROC-NY audience on Thursday, March 12th, 2026. All finalists will have 4 minutes to present, followed by 2 minutes for audience questions.
  1. Research Category - The work presented must be the work of the Student, Intern, Resident or Fellow Presenter submitting it. Research must have been done when the participant was a medical student or in postgraduate training. The final posters must contain the results of the study. Participants are encouraged to submit research that is original to this competition and has not been published. Entries that have been shown at other conferences/conventions are acceptable. No literature reviews will be accepted.
  2.  Case Report Category - The work presented must be the work of the Student, Intern, Resident or Fellow Presenter submitting it. Case Reports must be complete, rare or unusual, address osteopathic approach to management or address novel approach to management. All Case Reports must be well-documented and researched.
  3. The prize for the First Place Winner in each Research or Case Report Category will be $500. Second Place Winners will receive $250. Third Place Winners will receive $100. Fourth and Fifth Place Winners will  receive non-cash prizes. All Finalists’ pre-recorded video presentations will be featured on the NYSOMS website.

 B.    ​APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

  1. The completed signed application(s) and abstract(s) must be sent to NYSOMS electronically via e-mail at [email protected] and received no later than Friday, February 6th, 2026, 11:59 p.m. (EST).  THE EMAIL SUBJECT LINE SHOULD INCLUDE THE PRESENTER’S LAST NAME AND “ROC-NY 2026 POSTER COMPETITION (i.e. Baltazar, ROC-NY 2026 Poster Competition). An e-mail confirming receipt of the submission will be sent to each Presenter. If the submitting Presenter does not receive the confirmatory e-mail within 1 week of submission, he/she/they should contact NYSOMS at the above e-mail address or call (813) 368-8405. 
  2. The submitted abstract must not exceed more than 350 words (including title, authors, and institutions), must be no longer than one 8.5” x 11" page (one-inch margins) in minimum 12- point type size, single spaced, typed and in a Word document. Acceptance of the abstract will be contingent upon the appropriateness of the abstract and following the abstract protocol.
