Humana sues to reverse cut to Medicare Advantage ratings

Humana Inc. sued U.S. health agencies seeking to reverse a cut to crucial Medicare quality ratings, linked to billions of dollars in revenue, that sent the company’s stock tumbling this month.

The lawsuit argues that the U.S. Medicare program was “arbitrary and capricious” in how it calculated the metrics for Humana’s health plans. The scores, known as star ratings, are linked to billions in bonus payments in future years.

Nurse practitioners working for N.Y. allege gender discrimination

The medical professionals say their pay and civil service title has stagnated, even as they perform the work of physicians.

ALBANY — Nurse practitioners employed by New York have filed a lawsuit against the state agency responsible for overseeing their title and salary structure, alleging they have long been underpaid based on their gender.

The class-action lawsuit was filed last week in U.S. District Court in Albany against the state Civil Service Commission on behalf of over 200 nurse practitioners employed across multiple state agencies who are overwhelmingly women. They are being represented by Michael H. Sussman, an Orange County attorney.
